Pass The Butter … please.

August 28th, 2008 by Randy

Margarine was originally manufactured to fatten turkeys.  When it killed the turkeys, the people who had put all the money into the research wanted a payback so they put their heads together to figure out what to do with this product to get their money back.  It was a white substance with no food appeal so they added the yellow coloring and sold it to people to use in place of butter.  How do you like it?  They have come out with some clever new flavorings.

DO YOU KNOW.. the difference between margarine and butter?

Read on to the end…gets very interesting!

  1. Both have the same amount of calories.
  2. Butter is slightly higher in saturated fats at grams compared to 5 grams.
  3. Eating margarine can increase heart disease in women by 53% over eating the same amount of butter, according to a recent Harvard Medical Study.
  4. Eating butter increases the absorption of many other nutrients in other foods.
  5. Butter has many nutritional benefits where margarine has a few only because they are added!
  6. Butter tastes much better than margarine and it can enhance the flavors of other foods.
  7. Butter has been around for centuries where margarine has been around for less than 100 years.

And now, for Margarine…

  1. Very high in trans fatty acids.
  2. Triple risk of coronary heart disease.
    Increases total cholesterol
and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol)
  3. Increases the risk of cancers up to five times the normal risk.
  4. Lowers quality of breast milk.
  5. Decreases immune response.
  6. Decreases insulin response.
  7. And here’s the most disturbing fact…. HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERy INTERESTING!
  8. Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC!!!

This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance).

Try this test yourself:

Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area.  Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things:

  • No flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something)
  • It does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it.  Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not a find a home to grow.  Why?  Because it is nearly plastic.  Would you melt your Tupperware and spread that on your toast?

Share This With Your Friends….. (If you want to ‘butter them up’)!

Stroke: Know the Indicators!

August 3rd, 2008 by Randy

Hi Folks.. Randy here…

I got this in an email from Joe Jr. who is a cousin of mine.  We have a family newsletter and he sends me stuff of interest.  This time I thought that the subject was to important not to share with everyone.

His email follows….

Blood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue.

Early treatment of stroke can minimize damage and aid in quicker recovery time.

Stroke

Stroke

STROKE: Remember the 1st Three Letters…. S.T.R.
My nurse friend sent this and encouraged me to post it and spread the word  I agree.

If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks.
Seriously..

Please read:

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) ….she said she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food.  While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Ingrid’s husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away.)  She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today.  Some don’t die…. they end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this…

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke… totally.  He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Thank God for the sense to remember the ‘3′ steps, STR.  Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster.  The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.  Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions:

  1. S * Ask the individual to SMILE.
  2. T * Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) ( i.e. It is sunny out today)
  3. R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 999/911 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke ——– Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE:  Another ’sign’ of a stroke is this:  Ask the person to ’stick’ out his tongue..If the tongue is ‘crooked’, if it goes to one side or the other , that is also an indication of a stroke.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to
10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.
